These small, sweet cherry tomatoes are a versatile addition to any kitchen, perfect for salads, roasting, or snacking. Proper storage ensures their vibrant flavor and firm texture are preserved for maximum culinary enjoyment.
Storage Time
Best enjoyed within 5–7 days when stored at room temperature, or up to 10–14 days in the refrigerator.
Temperature
Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight for optimal flavor development. If refrigerating, aim for a temperature between 0–4°C.
Freezing
Cherry tomatoes can be frozen for long-term preservation, though their texture will soften upon thawing, making them ideal for cooked dishes like sauces or soups. Wash and thoroughly dry the tomatoes, then spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to airtight freezer bags or containers. To thaw, place them in the refrigerator overnight or use them directly from frozen in cooking.
Signs of Spoilage
- Soft, mushy spots or wrinkled skin indicating dehydration and decay.
- Visible mold growth, often appearing as fuzzy white, green, or black patches.
- A sour or fermented smell, a clear sign that the tomatoes have begun to break down.
