Indulge in the delightful crumb of homemade coffee cake, a perfect companion for your morning brew or afternoon tea. This sweet, often spiced, cake is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored to maintain its delicious texture and flavor.
Storage Time
3–4 days at room temperature, 5–7 days in the refrigerator, up to 3 months in the freezer.
Temperature
Store at room temperature (18-22°C) or refrigerated (0-4°C).
Freezing
Coffee cake freezes exceptionally well, preserving its moist crumb and sweet topping. Wrap individual slices or the entire cake tightly in plastic wrap, followed by a layer of aluminum foil or a freezer-safe container to prevent freezer burn. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator for best results, or at room temperature for a quicker thaw. Reheating in a low oven (150°C) for a few minutes can help revive its texture.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth, especially on the streusel topping or cake surface.
- A sour or off odor, indicating fermentation or bacterial spoilage.
- A slimy or sticky texture on the cake's surface, a clear sign of moisture and microbial activity.
