Indulge in the rich, decadent flavor of homemade or store-bought fudge! This delightful confection, often made with chocolate, sugar, butter, and milk, is a beloved treat that can be enjoyed for a surprisingly long time when stored correctly. Proper storage ensures its creamy texture and sweet taste remain at their best.
Storage Time
2–3 weeks at room temperature, 1 month in the refrigerator, up to 3 months frozen
Temperature
Ideal storage is cool and dry, around 18-20°C (65-68°F). Avoid direct sunlight and heat.
Freezing
Fudge freezes exceptionally well, preserving its delightful texture and flavor for extended periods. Wrap individual pieces or a whole batch tightly in plastic wrap, then place in an airtight container or freezer bag. To thaw, unwrap the fudge and let it come to room temperature gradually on the counter for a few hours. This prevents condensation from affecting its texture. Avoid microwaving to thaw, as it can lead to an uneven texture.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth, often appearing as fuzzy white or green patches.
- An off, sour, or rancid smell, indicating the fats have gone bad.
- A sticky, greasy, or overly soft texture that deviates significantly from its original consistency.
