Safely store your delicious homemade meatballs to enjoy their savory flavor for longer. Proper refrigeration and freezing techniques ensure these versatile culinary delights remain fresh and safe to eat, minimizing food waste.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 3–4 months in the freezer for best quality.
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F).
Freezing
Homemade meatballs freeze exceptionally well. Allow cooked meatballs to cool completely before flash-freezing them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Once frozen solid, transfer them to airtight freezer bags or containers, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. For best quality, consume within 3-4 months. To thaw, refrigerate overnight or gently reheat from frozen in a sauce or oven. Avoid refreezing thawed meatballs.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off odor that is distinctly unpleasant.
- A slimy or sticky texture on the surface of the meatballs.
- Visible mold growth, which can appear as fuzzy spots of various colors.
