Safely store your delicious homemade meatloaf to enjoy its savory flavors for days to come. Proper refrigeration and freezing techniques ensure optimal food safety and taste for this classic comfort food.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 2–3 months in the freezer for best quality.
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F).
Freezing
Allow cooked meatloaf to cool completely before wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap, followed by a layer of aluminum foil or placing it in a freezer-safe airtight container. This prevents freezer burn and maintains texture. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating thoroughly to an internal temperature of 74°C (165°F). While freezing is safe, the texture may become slightly softer upon thawing.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off odor that is distinctly unpleasant.
- A slimy or sticky texture on the surface of the meatloaf.
- Visible mold growth, which can appear as fuzzy patches of various colors.
