Preserve the fluffy, airy delight of marshmallows by storing them correctly. Proper storage ensures they remain soft and perfect for roasting, s'mores, or adding a sweet touch to your favorite beverages.
Storage Time
Marshmallows can last for up to 2 weeks at room temperature when stored properly. While refrigeration is not recommended as it can alter their texture, they can be frozen for extended preservation.
Temperature
Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature, ideally between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Avoid humid environments.
Freezing
Yes, marshmallows can be frozen to extend their shelf life significantly. For best results, place them in an airtight container or a heavy-duty freezer bag, ensuring as much air is removed as possible. This prevents freezer burn and maintains their soft texture. To thaw, simply remove them from the freezer and let them come to room temperature in their packaging for a few hours. While freezing is excellent for preservation, some slight textural changes might occur upon thawing, though they generally remain quite usable.
Signs of Spoilage
- Hardening or becoming excessively stiff and unyielding.
- Development of a stale, unpleasant odor.
- Visible mold growth, often appearing as fuzzy spots of various colors.
