Fresh meat tortellini, a delightful Italian pasta filled with savory ground meats, offers a quick and delicious meal solution. Properly stored, these delicate parcels of flavor can be enjoyed for days in the refrigerator or for extended periods when frozen.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 2–3 months in the freezer
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F). For freezing, maintain a temperature of -18°C (0°F) or lower.
Freezing
To freeze fresh meat tortellini, ensure they are well-chilled. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer the tortellini to airtight freezer bags or containers, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. This method preserves their texture and flavor for future culinary creations. Thaw frozen tortellini overnight in the refrigerator or cook them directly from frozen in boiling salted water, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off odor emanating from the pasta.
- Slimy or sticky texture on the surface of the tortellini.
- Visible mold growth, which can appear as fuzzy spots of various colors.
