Enjoy the creamy delight of soft serve ice cream at home! This frozen treat, often dispensed from machines, offers a lighter, airier texture than traditional ice cream. Proper storage is key to preserving its delightful flavor and smooth consistency.
Storage Time
Best consumed immediately. If stored, up to 1 week in the freezer.
Temperature
Keep frozen at -18°C (0°F) or colder.
Freezing
While soft serve is best enjoyed fresh, you can freeze leftover portions. Scoop the soft serve into an airtight container or freezer-safe bag, pressing out as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Allow it to freeze completely. To thaw, transfer the container to the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. Note that the texture may become slightly icier and less smooth after freezing and thawing.
Signs of Spoilage
- Development of large ice crystals, indicating freezer burn or improper freezing.
- Off-putting sour or fermented smell.
- Significant changes in color, such as browning or unusual discoloration.
