Indulge in the rich, buttery sweetness of homemade or store-bought toffee, a delightful hard candy confection. Properly stored, this classic treat can maintain its delightful crunch and flavor for extended periods, ensuring you can savor every piece.
Storage Time
Up to 2 weeks in a cool, dry pantry; 1 month if refrigerated; up to 3 months frozen.
Temperature
Ideal pantry temperature is between 18-22°C (65-72°F). Refrigeration at 0-4°C (32-40°F) can extend freshness but may affect texture.
Freezing
To freeze toffee for long-term enjoyment, wrap individual pieces or the entire batch tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in an airtight freezer-safe container or bag. This prevents freezer burn and moisture absorption. To thaw, unwrap the toffee at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to an hour to prevent condensation, which can make it sticky.
Signs of Spoilage
- Development of a sticky or soft texture, indicating moisture absorption.
- Visible signs of mold growth, especially if exposed to humidity.
- An off-putting, stale, or rancid smell, suggesting the fats have degraded.
