Farfalle pasta, also known as bow-tie pasta, is a delightful dry pasta shape perfect for a variety of culinary creations. Properly stored, this versatile ingredient can maintain its quality for extended periods, ensuring you always have a delicious meal option on hand.
Storage Time
Unopened: Indefinitely (best by date). Opened: 1–2 years in pantry. Cooked: 3–5 days in fridge.
Temperature
Store dry farfalle pasta in a cool, dry place, ideally between 15–21°C (59–70°F). Cooked pasta should be refrigerated at 0–4°C (32–40°F).
Freezing
Uncooked dry farfalle pasta can be frozen to extend its shelf life, though it's generally unnecessary due to its long pantry life. Cooked farfalle pasta freezes well. Allow cooked pasta to cool completely, then portion it into airtight containers or freezer bags. To thaw, transfer to the refrigerator overnight or reheat directly from frozen in a sauce or with a little added liquid. Freezing may slightly alter the texture of cooked pasta, making it a bit softer.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth on dry pasta.
- An off, musty, or rancid smell from dry pasta.
- Cooked pasta develops a slimy texture or sour odor.
