An indulgent ice cream sundae, a delightful frozen treat, is best enjoyed fresh. However, if you have leftovers, proper storage is key to maintaining its delicious texture and flavor, preventing freezer burn and spoilage.
Storage Time
Best consumed within 1-2 hours of preparation. If refrigerated, it will only last a few hours before melting significantly. Freezing is not recommended for assembled sundaes.
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at 0–4°C (32–40°F) for the briefest period possible, but ideally, it should remain frozen until served.
Signs of Spoilage
- Significant melting and liquid separation, indicating it's no longer frozen.
- Formation of ice crystals on the surface of the ice cream, a sign of thawing and refreezing.
- Off-smells, such as sourness or staleness, particularly from any fruit or dairy components.
- Changes in texture, becoming icy, grainy, or overly soft.
