Indulge in the delightful taste of homemade peanut butter cupcakes, a perfect treat for any occasion. These moist and flavorful cupcakes, often topped with creamy peanut butter frosting, are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored to maintain their deliciousness.
Storage Time
Store unfrosted cupcakes at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Frosted cupcakes are best refrigerated and will last for 3-4 days. Frozen cupcakes can maintain quality for up to 3 months.
Temperature
For optimal freshness, store unfrosted cupcakes in a cool, dry pantry at around 18-22°C (65-72°F). Frosted cupcakes and those intended for longer storage should be kept refrigerated at 0-4°C (32-40°F).
Freezing
Peanut butter cupcakes freeze exceptionally well, preserving their delightful texture and flavor. For best results, freeze unfrosted cupcakes or fully cooled frosted cupcakes. Wrap each cupcake individually in plastic wrap, then place them in an airtight container or freezer bag. To thaw, remove from the freezer and let them come to room temperature on a wire rack for a few hours, or thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Avoid microwaving, as it can alter the texture.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth, especially on the frosting or cake.
- An off, sour, or rancid smell, particularly from the peanut butter components.
- A slimy or sticky texture on the surface of the cake or frosting.
