Preserve the creamy goodness of powdered milk for extended periods with proper storage. This versatile dairy staple is ideal for baking, cooking, and quick beverages when kept in optimal conditions, ensuring you always have a supply of essential calcium and protein.
Storage Time
Unopened: Up to 2 years in a cool, dry pantry. Opened: 1-2 months in a cool, dry pantry, or up to 6 months if refrigerated.
Temperature
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. For opened containers, refrigeration at 0-4°C can extend freshness.
Freezing
Powdered milk can be frozen to significantly extend its shelf life, though some minor texture changes may occur upon thawing. For best results, transfer the powdered milk to an airtight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag, removing as much air as possible. Thaw by placing the container in the refrigerator overnight before use. While it remains safe to consume after freezing, the reconstituted milk might be slightly less smooth.
Signs of Spoilage
- Unpleasant, sour, or rancid odor.
- Clumping or caking that doesn't disperse easily when mixed with water.
- Discoloration, such as yellowing or browning, especially in opened containers.
