Indulge in the rich, tender crumb of a classic butter cake, a versatile dessert perfect for any occasion. Properly stored, this delightful baked good can maintain its delicious flavor and texture for days.
Storage Time
3–4 days at room temperature, 5–7 days in the refrigerator, up to 3 months in the freezer.
Temperature
Best stored at room temperature (18-22°C) if unfrosted, or refrigerated (0-4°C) if frosted with dairy-based icings.
Freezing
Butter cake freezes beautifully! Wrap unfrosted cake tightly in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil or a freezer-safe container to prevent freezer burn. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, or at room temperature for a few hours. For frosted cakes, freeze slices individually first on a baking sheet until firm, then wrap as described to maintain frosting integrity. Quality may slightly diminish after freezing, especially in texture.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off smell, distinct from its usual sweet aroma.
- Visible mold growth, appearing as fuzzy spots of various colors.
- A dry, crumbly texture that has become unpleasantly hard or stale.
