Fresh jalapeños are vibrant green chili peppers known for their moderate heat and distinct flavor, perfect for adding a spicy kick to salsas, nachos, and countless other culinary creations. Proper storage is key to preserving their crisp texture and pungent aroma for maximum enjoyment in your favorite dishes.
Storage Time
1–2 weeks in the refrigerator, up to 6–12 months frozen
Temperature
Store in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator, ideally between 4–7°C (40–45°F).
Freezing
To freeze fresh jalapeños, wash them thoroughly and pat them completely dry to prevent ice crystals. You can freeze them whole, sliced, or chopped. For whole peppers, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Sliced or chopped jalapeños can be frozen directly in a bag or container. Frozen jalapeños will lose some of their crispness but retain their flavor and heat, making them excellent for cooked dishes like stews, chilis, or sauces. Thaw them in the refrigerator or use them directly from frozen in recipes.
