Preserve the pungent aroma and robust flavor of fresh garlic with homemade or store-bought garlic paste. This versatile ingredient is a culinary essential, perfect for infusing dishes with intense garlic notes without the hassle of mincing.
Storage Time
Store homemade garlic paste in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Commercially prepared garlic paste, once opened, typically lasts for 2-3 weeks in the fridge, check the packaging for specific guidance.
Temperature
Always store garlic paste refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F) to maintain its freshness and prevent spoilage.
Freezing
Garlic paste freezes exceptionally well, allowing you to enjoy its potent flavor for longer. For best results, portion the paste into ice cube trays and freeze until solid, then transfer the frozen cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. This method makes it easy to add small amounts to your cooking. Thaw frozen garlic paste overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature for immediate use. While freezing is excellent for preservation, there might be a slight textural change upon thawing, though the flavor remains largely intact.
Signs of Spoilage
- Unpleasant, sour, or fermented odor.
- Visible mold growth, which can appear as fuzzy spots of various colors (green, white, black).
- A slimy or mushy texture, indicating bacterial activity.
- Discoloration, such as a darkening or grayish hue, deviating from its typical pale yellow or off-white color.
