Enjoy the tangy goodness of your homemade sourdough bread for longer by storing it correctly. Proper storage preserves its delightful crust and chewy interior, minimizing waste and maximizing flavor.
Storage Time
3–4 days at room temperature, up to 3 months frozen.
Temperature
Best stored at a cool room temperature (18-22°C) or frozen.
Freezing
To freeze homemade sourdough, allow it to cool completely. Slice the loaf or freeze it whole, wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap followed by a layer of aluminum foil or placing it in a freezer-safe bag to prevent freezer burn. Thaw at room temperature for several hours or gently reheat in a low oven (around 150°C) for a few minutes to revive its crust.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth, appearing as fuzzy green, white, or black spots.
- A sour or off-putting smell that is distinct from its natural sourdough aroma.
- A hard, dry, and stale texture that cannot be revived.
