Storage Time

Temperature
Unopened canned butter beans should be stored in a cool, dry pantry, ideally between 10-21°C (50-70°F), away from direct sunlight or heat sources. After opening, always keep the beans refrigerated at 0-4°C (32-40°F) to inhibit bacterial growth.
Freezing
To freeze opened canned butter beans, first drain them thoroughly and rinse if desired. Transfer the beans to a freezer-safe airtight container or heavy-duty freezer bag, leaving a small amount of headspace to allow for expansion. Signs of Spoilage
- A bulging, leaking, or severely dented can is a critical sign of potential spoilage, indicating a risk of botulism; discard immediately.
- An off-smell, such as a sour, fermented, or unusually strong odor emanating from the beans, is a clear indicator they are no longer safe to consume.
- If the beans appear slimy, mushy, or show any visible signs of mold growth, they have spoiled and should be discarded.
- Any significant discoloration, such as darkening, unusual spots, or a cloudy liquid, suggests spoilage and warrants disposal.
